How to Make Money Blogging in 2021
I recently listened to a podcast that mentioned that revenue from blogging over the next four years is poised to explode. Like off the charts. As in, bloggers who are serious about blogging and making money can and will make money.
Huh? What? Really?
But Isn’t Blogging Dead?
If you thought blogging was dead, you’re dead wrong.
And if the naysayers have told you to ditch your blog plans because the blogosphere is saturated…. nope. not.going.there. either.
Sure, if there is anything 2020 has taught us, it’s that we can’t predict the future.
However, it’s a pretty safe bet that in 2021, people will increasingly turn to their Internet-connected devices and computers for everything from work-from-home, homeschooling, university classes, remote learning, virtual medical appointments, zoom workout sessions, online meet-ups, general research, education, entertainment, and, of course, shopping.
So, what that means is that bloggers and blogging play essential and effective roles in affiliate & content marketing. And that’s not going away any time soon.
Here’s How You Make Money Blogging in 2021
So, what’s the catch to making money blogging in 2021? There’s not one. Really.
But blogging isn’t magic.
And surprise, surprise… blogging success isn’t all about having good luck. Well, maybe there’s a dash of luck. Sure, some bloggers get lucky real fast and get overnight results, like when a post gets picked up and linked to by a mega star blog player, news outlet, or influencer.
However, success or earnings aren’t likely to spontaneously happen unless you put in the effort on your end. But, success doesn’t have to take F-O-R-E-V-E-R. It doesn’t have to take months and months–or years.
If you want to make money blogging in 2021, here are some ideas to get you there.
1. Follow Your Passion, But Follow the Market More.
I’m not suggesting that you should give up on blogging about what interests you. After all, if you’re interested in a niche, you’re more likely to stick with it, day after day, month after month, year after year.
But, if you want to make money in 2021, passion alone isn’t going to cut it. At some point, you have to write for the market. Like any business plan or idea, you have to figure out what people want, what sells, what captures audience interest.
You could blog with passion and conviction all day long, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to rake in the cash unless there’s a market for what you’re writing about.
2. Blog Like a Boss.
If you want to make money blogging in 2021, you have to blog like a boss. You have to blog like you mean it. Like you want success. With determination to succeed.
Even if you’re carving out time in your life to work on your blog in the evenings after your regular day job, you still have to blog like a boss. And, if you’re seriously thinking of blogging as a career, as a career change, or as midlife makeover, you’ve got to pour yourself into it. If parents raising families can grow successful, money-making blogs, some while also holding down day jobs and/or taking care of older parents, so can you. No excuses.
You’ve got to dive right in. You have to have a get things done attitude.
Are you blogging for fun? Or are you blogging for financial and career rewards? Figure it out. If it’s the latter, you’ve got to look at your blog as a business. And run it like one.
Simple. As. That.
3. Leverage Pinterest
If you want to make money blogging in 2021, you’re going to leverage social media, especially Pinterest.
I’m not kidding around here. And neither are the many bloggers and Pinterest marketing experts who swear by Pinterest and blog promotion via pins as a major blog growth strategy. Pinterest is where it’s at.
4. Guest Bloggers & Guest Blogging
A key how to make money in 2021 involves writing smarter. Writing more efficiency. And writing better, more targeted, more keyword attentive content. It also means inviting guest bloggers to contribute content on your site. And, you, yourself contributed guest blog posts to other blogs.
Guest blogging is important for blog growth and success because of the traffic it can produce. Plus, it is a great way to grow your blog (and your name) as an even broader authority on your subject matter or niche.
So, get out there! And get guests contributing quality content to your blog. Obviously, the more established and well known bloggers are who are contributing content will help your cause, but don’t be afraid to work with lesser known, ambitious, and driven bloggers. Look at guest contributions as part of your overall 2021 blog growth strategy.
5. Promote, Promote, Promote
After you write a blog post or add fresh content to your blog, it’s not enough for you to sit back and wait for traffic to roll in. Instead, as soon as you hit “post” that’s when the real work begins.
You’ve got to promote your content like mad. As soon as you’ve published content, you need to put the world (and your readers) on full alert. Promote via social media, including Twitter and LinkedIn, newsletters, groups, and wherever you have a presence.
And don’t just do it once. Obviously, you don’t want to be spammy or unprofessional about it, but you’ll want to establish a system for resharing again at later time(s) and/or date(s). Some bloggers are pretty systematical about their post-publish promotion schedule, others are a bit more flexible in their approach. You have to figure out what works best for you and your blog. But the key is to get your content out there.
As in, get it out there, far and wide.
The Big Picture
Put these strategies together and you’ll hit the ground running in 2021. You can make money blogging in 2021! So, get after it, already!
